The Ferndale Cat Shelter is a non-profit 501(c)3 dedicated to providing medical care, adoption services, foster homes and trap-neuter-release programs for felines in the Metropolitan Detroit area. As a no-kill organization, our mission is to improve the lives of felines in our community and elevate the standards of cat guardianship and adoption. Our licensed shelter is the Catfé Lounge, a cat café that serves as our hub for cat adoption, volunteering and fostering.

Visiting the catfé and adopting through FCS has been such a joy. You can tell the volunteers and staff pour their heart and soul into the kitties, which makes it such a pleasurable, wholesome experience. The volunteers are so friendly and will walk you through the process, while also introducing you to kitties they think will be the best fit for your situation. Our process went so smoothly, and we got to take our forever friend home! I highly recommend visiting the catfé and considering adoption through FCS. ♥️

Application denied about adopting a kitten because my dog wasn’t neutered… he has a heart murmur his entire life so that’ll be a big risk for him. I got denied for “not believing in neutering”. All of my animals have been neutered besides one because he has a health condition. Upon application question if my animals in my home where neutered they combined “No” with “I don’t believe”… I then express my confusion on how to answer the question and I was told I was “overthinking” and to answer to my “best ability” now I did that and I’m denied because I care about my dogs well being in life. This was very heartbreaking for me because I fell in love with this kitten and I wanted to spoil and love her 💔 This isn’t a angry review but it’s a very heartbreaking and disappointed review.

Went for the catfe experience, so I can’t comment on the adoption process. The space is divided into 3 sections: the cafe, a central sitting room, and the room with the cats & toys. The cafe is relatively large, and they offered tea, coffee, and a small assortment of pastries. The central room smelled a bit, but it is near the kitty litter area and isn’t the room that visitors would stay in very long. The staff and volunteers were friendly and provided information about the cats’ temperaments (e.g., which cats were playful, which ones will scratch, the set of cats that were friendly but were perched up high to avoid interaction, etc.). Stayed for almost an hour to pet cats, play, and learn about their rescue process / the organization’s history.

Adopted a 5 month old kitten from the Ferndale Cat Shelter in 2023, and it was all around an easy process. Applied online and was able to meet the kitten at the foster moms house that weekend, and we fell in love. The foster mom was amazing and very welcoming. The adoption process was very thorough, which I appreciate. They asked for recommendations (which they did call and verify) and did a virtual house visit. Would highly recommend. Our kitten has done so well and they really do the best to place animals where they will grow and thrive.

I have fostered a pregnant mom cat and (after she got them) also her kittens for the FCS. It was the fist time for me and FCS team was always there to support me with advice and whatever supplies I needed. Lynn was always very quick to reply. We worked around things if I needed help or someone to temporary jump in for me - it was never a problem. All the spay appointments were organized quickly and information was provided before and after the appointment so that I knew what and how to deal with. I can say they always have the animals best interest at heart!!! The adoption process for all the kitties and the mom was easy and quick. They all have their forever home now! I ended up keeping one of my foster kittens myself and she makes me very happy every day ^^
